Garlic Herb Butter Tomahawk Steak
Garlic Herb Butter Tomahawk Steak
Ingredients:
- 1 tomahawk steak (2-3 lbs, about 2 inches thick)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Flaky sea salt (optional for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Steak:
- Remove the steak from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature.
- Season generously on both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Make the Garlic Herb Butter:
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic, chopped rosemary, and thyme. Set aside.
- Sear the Steak:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat a large cast-iron skillet over high heat. Add olive oil.
- Sear the tomahawk steak for 2-3 minutes on each side, ensuring a golden crust forms. Don’t forget to sear the edges for even browning.
- Finish in the Oven:
- Place the skillet with the steak in the preheated oven. Cook for 8-10 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust time to your preferred doneness (use a meat thermometer: 130°F for medium-rare).
- Rest and Serve:
- Remove the steak from the oven and place it on a cutting board. Spread the garlic herb butter on top and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Slice the steak against the grain and garnish with flaky sea salt if desired. Serve with roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
